Brief Explanation
1؎: The narrations of Harmas bin Ziyad and Abu Umamah radi Allahu anhuma and others indicate that delivering a sermon (khutbah) on the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr) is legislated. Some people say that there is no sermon on Yawm al-Nahr, and that these ahadith are of the nature of general admonition and advice, not the sermon which is among the rites (sha‘a’ir) of Hajj. These narrations refute their statement, because the narrators of these ahadith have called it a sermon (khutbah), just as the sermon of ‘Arafat is called a sermon.
