Narrated Sarra daughter of Nabhan: She was mistress of a temple in pre-Islamic days. She said: The prophet ﷺ addressed us on the second day of sacrifice (yawm ar-ru'us) and said: Which is this day? We said: Allah and His Messenger are better aware. He said: Is this not the middle of the tashriq days?

Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1953. Commentary:
➊ The three days following Eid al-Adha (the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah) are called the Days of Tashreeq. Tashreeq means to cut meat into pieces and dry it in the sun. The first day is called Yawm al-Qarr (meaning the day of settlement), and the second day is called Yawm al-Ru’us, that is, the day of heads, because they used to cook and eat the heads of the sacrificial animals. The third day is called Yawm al-Nafr (the day of departure).
➋ On this occasion, it is recommended (mustahabb) for the Imam to deliver a sermon for Hajj, as is established from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). According to the situation, important issues should be reminded.

638 Lexical Explanation:
«يوم الرءُوس» There is consensus among all that by «يوم الرووس» is meant the eleventh day of Dhu al-Hijjah. Its name "Yawm al-Ru'us" (Day of the Heads) is given because on this day, the heads of the sacrificial animals are gathered in abundance.
«اوسط ايام التشريق» In *Subul al-Salam* it is mentioned that regarding the word «اوسط», there are two possibilities: it may be that "awsat" means "the best," and it may also mean that since it is situated between the two ends (the tenth and twelfth of Dhu al-Hijjah), it is "the middle." According to this view, Yawm al-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice) is included among the Days of Tashriq. However, the opinion of almost all scholars is that by the Days of Tashriq are meant the three days excluding the day of sacrifice, because during these three days people used to dry the meat of the sacrifice in the sun, and in the Arabic language, placing meat in the sun to dry is called "tashriq." Therefore, these days are named the Days of Tashriq.
Narrator of the Hadith:
Hazrat Sara bint Nabhan radi Allahu anha: In «سراء », the "seen" has a fathah, the "ra" has a fathah and shaddah, and at the end is an alif mamdudah. In «نبهان», the "noon" has a fathah and the "fa" is sakin. She was from the tribe of Ghanu. Rabi'ah 'Abd al-Rahman narrated from her.
