Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: When al-Hajjaj killed Ibn Zubayr, he sent a message to Ibn Umar asking him: At which moment the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to proceed (to Arafat) this day? He replied: When it happens so, we shall proceed. When Ibn Umar intended to proceed, the people said: The sun did not decline. He (Ibn Umar) asked: Did it decline? They replied: It did not decline. When they said that the sun had declined, he proceeded.

Benefits and Issues:
(1)
Our esteemed researcher has declared the mentioned narration weak in its chain of transmission, and further writes that its origin is in Sahih Muslim (1218).
Also, in the research of Sunan Abu Dawood (Urdu Hadith: 1914, Darussalam edition),
he writes that the narration of Sahih Muslim suffices for this.
In addition, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has graded it as hasan.
Furthermore, the researchers of Musnad Ahmad write regarding it that the mentioned narration is indeed weak in its chain,
but other authentic narrations support the issue mentioned in the hadith,
that after the sun has declined, one should enter the boundaries of Arafat.
Therefore, despite the mentioned narration being weak in its chain, it is actionable and authoritative due to other supporting evidences.
For further details, see: (al-Mawsu‘ah al-Hadithiyyah, Musnad al-Imam Ahmad 8/399, 400)
and Sahih Abi Dawood (detailed), Hadith: 1672.

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Hajj, Chapter: Departing Early on the Day of ‘Arafah, Hadith: 1660)
