Hadith 1899

Amr bin Shuaib reported on the authority of his father: I went round the Kabah along with Abdullah ibn Amr. When we came behind the Kabah I asked: Do you not seek refuge? He uttered the words: I seek refuge in Allah from the Hell-fire. He then went (farther) and touched the Black Stone, and stood between the corner (Black Stone) and the entrance of the Kabah. He then placed his breast, his face, his hands and his palms in this manner, and he spread them, and said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing like this.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1899. Commentary: This chain of narration is weak. However, it is authentically established from the practice of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu), Urwah ibn Zubayr, and other Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in). In this way, this narration attains the level of hasan. (Manasik al-Hajj wal-‘Umrah, p. 22, by Allamah al-Albani rahimahullah)

Benefits and Issues:

The mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission, but it is authentically established through the actions of Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu), Urwah ibn Zubayr, and other Companions (radi Allahu anhum).
Shaykh al-Albani (rahimahullah) has, most likely for this reason, declared the mentioned narration to be hasan (good).
For details, see: (al-Silsilah al-Sahihah no. 2138 and Manasik al-Hajj wal-‘Umrah by al-Albani, p. 22)

After performing the two units (rak‘ahs) of circumambulation (tawaf), one may supplicate for oneself and for one’s relatives and friends with any appropriate supplication, just as Shu‘ayb ibn Muhammad (rahimahullah) and Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radi Allahu anhu) supplicated for protection from the Hellfire.

The area between the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) and the Ka‘bah is called the Multazam.
At this place, it is Sunnah to press one’s chest and face against the structure of the Ka‘bah; however, during times of crowding, one should avoid pushing and shoving.

Clinging to the structure of the Ka‘bah in this manner is Sunnah only at the place of the Multazam.
It is not Sunnah to cling to other parts of the Ka‘bah in this way.
