Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came an entered Makkah, and after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had gone forward to the Stone, and touched it, he went round the House (the Kabah). He then went to as-Safa and mounted it so that he could look at the House. Then he raised his hands began to make mention of Allah as much as he wished and make supplication. The narrator said: The Ansar were beneath him. The narrator Hashim said: He prayed and praised Allah and asked Him for what he wished to ask.

1872. Commentary: Ascending Safa and Marwah, facing the direction of the Ka'bah, and raising the hands in supplication is a Sunnah practice. And this raising of the hands is not due to seeing the Ka'bah, but rather for the purpose of supplication.
