Brief Explanation
1؎ : In the state of ihram, neither can the pilgrim himself contract a marriage nor can he arrange the marriage of another. This hadith of Uthman radi Allahu anhu holds the status of law in this regard, in which there is no room for any other opinion. As for the statement of Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma (which is coming in hadith number: 1844) that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam married Maymunah radi Allahu anha while in the state of ihram, this is his misunderstanding (see number: 1845). The statement of Umm al-Mu'minin Maymunah radi Allahu anha herself and that of Abu Rafi' radi Allahu anhu, who arranged the marriage, is contrary to this—that this marriage took place at Sarif while in a state of being lawful (not in ihram). Thus, the statement of the person directly involved in the matter is more reliable. In reality, Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma considered merely sending the hady (the animal to be slaughtered in Mina) without going to Makkah as being in ihram, whereas this is not ihram. And this marriage was taking place while the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had sent the hady after marking it and remained at home, and according to Aisha radi Allahu anha, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not impose any of the restrictions of ihram upon himself.
