Hadith 1817

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ said: A person who performs Umrah should shout talbiyah till he touches the Black Stone. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Abd al-Malik bin Abi Sulaiman and Hammam from Ata on the authority of Ibn Abbas as his own statement (i. e. the tradition was not attributed to the Prophet)

Brief Explanation
1؎ : This hadith is weak in its chain of narration, but this is the opinion of many scholars. Some people say: One should stop reciting the talbiyah as soon as one’s gaze falls upon the houses of Makkah, but the correct view is that one should stop reciting the talbiyah as soon as one’s gaze falls upon the Ka‘bah, and recite this supplication: «اللهم أنت السلام ومنك السلام الخ» .
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1817. Commentary: This narration is not marfu‘ but rather mawquf, and it is authentic in this form. The ruling and practice are based on this: in ‘umrah, the talbiyah continues until the touching (istilam) of the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad); after that, it is not recited.
