Hadith 1793

Narrated Saeed ibn al-Musayyab: A man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He bore witness before him that when he (the Prophet) was suffering from a disease of which he died he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting performing of Umrah before hajj.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1793. Commentary: Imam Mundhiri says that the hearing (sama‘) of Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib from ‘Umar is not authentically established. (Awn) Therefore, this narration is not authentic. However, our researcher Shaykh Zubair ‘Ali has declared it to be hasan (good). In this regard, the prohibition (nahi) in it will be for recommendation (istihbab), and the intended meaning is that, when able, Hajj should be performed first because it is a major obligation and of greater importance. Otherwise, it is established from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself that he performed two ‘umrahs before his Hajj.
