Narrated Najiyah al-Aslami: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent sacrificial camels with him (as offering to the Kabah). He then said: If any one of them becomes fatigued, slaughter it, dip its shoes in its blood, and leave it for the people (to eat).

Sayyiduna Najiyah Khuzai (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the caretaker of the sacrificial animals of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What should I do with a camel that becomes exhausted?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Slaughter it! Then dip its feet in its blood and mark it on the side of that camel, then leave it for the people."

Benefit: From this hadith, it is understood that if an animal is about to die, it should be slaughtered so that people can benefit from its meat, and this is general. However, if an animal has been specifically designated for Hady (sacrificial offering) and is being taken towards the House of Allah (Baytullah), and that animal is about to die due to illness or some other reason, then it should be slaughtered, its feet should be smeared with blood, and a mark of blood should be placed on its side. Nothing from the meat of this animal should be eaten by oneself, but the people of that locality and city may eat from it.
