Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: In the year of al-Hudaybiyyah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ included among his sacrificial animals a camel with a silver nose-ring (Ibn Minhal's version has gold) which had belonged to Abu Jahl (the version of an-Nufayli added) "thereby enraging the polytheists".

1749. Commentary:
➊ The use of a small amount of silver in animal bridles and similar items is permissible.
➋ The manifestation and dominance of Islam and Muslims, and subduing and humiliating disbelief and disbelievers, is the objective and aim of the true religion. This causes the disbelievers to burn with envy and brings coolness to the hearts of the Muslims. The fact that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) specifically took Abu Jahl’s camel for sacrifice was for this very purpose. And this theme is also mentioned in Surah At-Tawbah, verses 14 and 15, where it is stated: “Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands, disgrace them, give you victory over them, and heal the breasts of a believing people. And remove the rage from their hearts...” That is, fight them—Allah will punish them at your hands, disgrace and humiliate them, grant you victory over them, and cool the hearts of the Muslims and remove the grief and anger from their hearts.

Fawaid and Issues:
➊ In a herd of camels, the majority are she-camels; therefore, in hady (sacrificial animals for Hajj) and qurbani (ritual sacrifice), most of those offered are also she-camels. In this hadith, a male camel is mentioned; thus, the permissibility of sacrificing both male and female camels is established.
➋ Abu Jahl’s camel was obtained as war booty; therefore, as gratitude for dominance over disbelief, the camel acquired from the leader of the disbelievers was slaughtered.
➌ The camel was adorned with a bridle having a silver ring, which was most likely placed by Abu Jahl. This indicates an expression of pride. The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sacrificed this camel in the path of Allah, thereby expressing his servitude.
