Ibn Abbas and Tawus reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed places for putting on Ihram and narrated the rest of the tradition to the same effect (as mentioned above). One of them said and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. The other narrator said Alamlam. These (places for Ihram) are appointed for these regions and for people of other regions who come to them intending to perform Hajj and Umrah. The place where those who live nearer to Makkah should put on Ihram from where they start and so on up to the inhabitants of Makkah itself who put on Ihram in it. This is the version of Ibn Tawus.

1738. Commentary: It is obligatory to assume ihram from these designated stations (miqat) only for those who intend to perform Hajj or Umrah, not for others. Yalamlam: This is a location south of the House of Allah (Baytullah), which serves as the miqat for those coming from Yemen, China, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan. It is situated 92 kilometers from Makkah al-Mukarramah. Dhu’l-Hulayfah: This is the miqat for those coming from Madinah al-Munawwarah and its surrounding areas. Its current name is Abar Ali. It is closer to Madinah and is located approximately four and a half hundred kilometers from Makkah. Juhfah: This is the miqat for those coming from the direction of Syria, Turkey, and Egypt. This settlement no longer exists, but people now assume ihram from a nearby place called Rabigh. It is located 187 kilometers northwest of Makkah. Dhat ‘Irq: This is the miqat for those coming from Iraq and similar regions. This settlement also no longer exists, but people now assume ihram from a nearby place called al-Dharibah, which is also known as Khuraybat. It is 94 kilometers northeast of Makkah. Qarn al-Manazil: This is the miqat for the people of Najd and those coming from the direction of ‘Arafat. This settlement no longer exists, but now ihram is assumed from a nearby place called al-Sayl, which is 94 kilometers from Makkah.
