Hadith 1729

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ حَيَّانَ الْأَحْمَرَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا صَرُورَةَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ " .
Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ said: Islam does not allow for failure to perform the hajj.

Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1729. Commentary: Umar bin Ata, that is, Ibn Abi Khawar, is a weak narrator; several have declared him weak. «صرورة » (with a fatha on the letter ṣād) has one meaning as already mentioned; another meaning is that a person lives in the manner of travelers and does not marry. This is not permitted in Islam.
