Hadith 1674

The above mentioned tradition has also been transmitted by Ibn Ishaq through a different chain of narrators to the same effect. This version adds "have your property with you from us. We have no need of it. "

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1674. Commentary: Such charity or any good deed that is performed in a moment of emotion, but whose apparent effects are beyond the endurance of the doer—so that later he regrets it, or the good deed itself begins to seem bad to him—this is a very undesirable state. A person should think carefully before taking such a step, especially in matters of charity. Among some so-called Sufis, this tendency is found: first, they give away everything they have to the communal kitchen (langar), then they start collecting from people. However, for those sincere individuals who have complete trust (tawakkul) in Allah and have no fear of regret, there is also a concession for them to give away all their wealth in charity, as will be mentioned in the next chapter.
