1670. Commentary: This narration, with this chain of transmission, is weak. Therefore, the story regarding the questioner is authentic, but neither does it establish nor negate the issue of the chapter. However, from other evidences, it is established that asking (for help) in the mosque for a religious need or for those in need is permissible. Nevertheless, this narration has come in another form in Sahih Muslim. In it, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked the Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in): "Who among you has fasted today?" Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) said, "I have." He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked, "Who among you has attended a funeral today?" Abu Bakr (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) said, "I have." He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked, "Who among you has fed a needy person today?" Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) said, "I have." He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) asked, "Who among you has visited a sick person today?" Abu Bakr (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu) said, "I have." Then the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "Whoever combines these qualities in himself will certainly enter Paradise." (Sahih Muslim, Book of Zakat, Hadith 1028)
