1652. Commentary:
➊ One should not disrespect food. If it is found in a [clean] condition, it should be picked up. And consuming it is its proper use. It is necessary to avoid doubtful things.
➋ The statement of Imam Abu Dawud rahimahullah alludes to the fact that in the previous hadith from Hammad, the understanding of Anas radi Allahu anhu was mentioned: that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would not pick up any date out of fear that it might be from charity. However, in the narration of Hisham and Khalid ibn Qays, the actual statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is mentioned. The hadith of Hisham is narrated in Sahih Muslim. (Sahih Muslim, Al-Zakat, Hadith 1071) (Awn al-Ma‘bud)
