1610. Commentary:
➊ This charity was instituted by the command of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). This indicates its obligatory nature, as the word (fardh) has appeared in other hadiths.
➋ The due right of Sadaqat al-Fitr is that it should be given before going out for the Eid prayer.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: It is necessary to give the sadaqat al-fitr before the Eid prayer; if it is given afterwards, it will not be considered sadaqat al-fitr. And the practice of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) requires that one sa‘ (a specific measure) of sadaqat al-fitr be given from each type (of staple food).
