The Above-mentioned tradition has also been narrated by Ibn Shihab through a different chain of narrators to the same effects.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1604. Commentary: Since grapes, dates, and other fruits ripen gradually and continue to be consumed over time, the rule for their ‘ushr (tithe) is as follows: an estimate is obtained from experienced and knowledgeable individuals, who, by looking at the unripe fruit on the trees, determine approximately how much the yield will be when it is fully ripe. In Arabic, this is called (khars), and in Urdu, it is referred to as estimation or assessment. In the estimated weight, one-third or one-fourth is deducted, and ‘ushr is applied to the remainder. Both of the above-mentioned narrations are individually weak, but are actionable due to other supporting evidences. For details, see: (Irwa’ al-Ghalil, 3/280, Hadith 805)
