1541. Commentary: «الحزن» This word is read with a dammah on the letter "ḥā’" and a sukoon on the letter "zā’", and also with a fatḥah on both. The difference between «ھم » and «حزن» is that «ھم » refers to apprehensions about the future, while «حزن» refers to the anxieties that arise due to some incident in the past. «ظلع» and «ضلع» are almost synonymous; in Sahih Bukhari, «ضلع» appears with the letter "ḍād".
