Hadith Takhrij« سنن الترمذی/الدعوات 107 (3559)، (تحفة الأشراف:6628) (ضعیف) » (اس کے ایک راوی مولی لا ٔبی بکر مبہم مجہول آدمی ہیں)
1؎: By persistence in minor sins, they become major sins, and by persistence in major sins, a person can reach disbelief (kufr). However, if after every sin one sincerely repents (tawbah) and seeks forgiveness (istighfar) and firmly resolves not to commit it again, but unfortunately falls into it once more, this will not be considered persistence. In this way, the virtue of seeking forgiveness (istighfar) is established from this hadith.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
1514. English Commentary: ➊ The meaning of istighfar is to seek forgiveness from Allah for one’s sins; that He may cover them with His mercy and not disgrace the servant. ➋ To persist and insist upon one’s sins is the habit of the wrongdoers and sinners. [يَسْمَعُآيَاتِاللَّـهِتُتْلَىٰعَلَيْهِثُمَّيُصِرُّمُسْتَكْبِرًاكَأَنلَّمْيَسْمَعْهَا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُبِعَذَابٍأَلِيمٍ] [الجاثیة۔8] He listens to the verses of Allah which are recited to him, yet he persists (in his sins), acting arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him glad tidings of a painful punishment. Whereas the attribute of a God-fearing (muttaqi) person is the opposite of this. [وَلَمْيُصِرُّواعَلَىٰمَافَعَلُواوَهُمْيَعْلَمُونَ] [آل عمران۔135] The God-fearing do not persist in what they have done, and they know.
