Hadith 1474

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ فَائِدٍ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنَ امْرِئٍ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ يَنْسَاهُ إِلَّا لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَجْذَمَ " .
Narrated Saad ibn Ubadah: The Prophet ﷺ said: No man recites the Quran, then forgets it, but will meet Allah on the Day of Judgment in a maimed condition (or empty-handed, or with no excuse).

1474. Commentary: This narration is weak in its chain. Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad is not reliable as evidence. In any case, it is a great flaw that a person recites the Qur'an, or memorizes it, or reads its translation, and then forgets it. Clearly, this only happens when a person is negligent; otherwise, if it is simply a matter of memory failing, then that is another issue. That, insha Allah, is excused.
