Hadith 147

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْقِلٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَعَلَيْهِ عِمَامَةٌ قِطْرِيَّةٌ ، فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْعِمَامَةِ فَمَسَحَ مُقَدَّمَ رَأْسِهِ وَلَمْ يَنْقُضْ الْعِمَامَةَ " .
Narrated Anas ibn Malik: I saw the Messenger ﷺ perform ablution. He had a Qutri turban. He inserted his hand beneath the turban and wiped over the forelock, and did not untie the turban.

Benefits and Issues:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission. Furthermore, there is no explicit mention in it of wiping (masah) over the turban (imamah), but in the narrations of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman radi Allahu anhu and others, it is explicitly stated that the remainder of the wiping was completed over the turban. Here, the absence of mention cannot be taken as a basis for negating the original ruling. Wiping over the turban is established from authentic Sunnah. As has already been permitted in hadith number [146], and its explicit mention is also coming ahead in hadith number [150].
