Narrated Amr ibn al-As: The Prophet ﷺ taught me fifteen prostrations while reciting the Quran, including three in al-Mufassal and two in Surah al-Hajj. Abu Dawud said: Abu al-Darda has reported eleven prostrations from the Prophet ﷺ, but chain of this tradition is weak.

Brief Explanation
1؎ : According to Imam Ahmad and the majority of the Ahl al-Hadith, there are fifteen prostrations of recitation (sajda tilawa) in the Noble Qur’an. According to Imam Malik, there are only eleven prostrations; in his view, there is no prostration in the Mufassal surahs and Surah Sad. According to Imam Shafi’i, there are a total of fourteen prostrations; in his view as well, there is no prostration in Surah Sad. According to Imam Abu Hanifa, there are also a total of fourteen prostrations; he considers there to be only one prostration in Surah Hajj. According to the majority, the prostration of recitation is Sunnah, but Imam Abu Hanifa considers it obligatory (wajib). According to the four Imams (a’immah arba‘a) and most scholars, ablution (wudu) is a condition for it, but according to Imam Ibn Taymiyyah, it is not a condition.

2؎ : In Surah Najm, Surah Inshiqaq, and Iqra’.

3؎ : These make a total of five prostrations, and the remaining ten are in the other surahs: al-A‘raf, al-Ra‘d, al-Nahl, Bani Isra’il, Maryam, al-Furqan, al-Naml, alif-lam-meem tanzil al-Sajdah, Sad, and Fussilat. In this way, the total becomes fifteen prostrations.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The mentioned narration is weak in its chain of transmission.
However, from authentic ahadith, it is found that there are 15 prostrations (sajdahs) mentioned in the Noble Qur’an.
Whereas the Hanafis and Shafi‘is hold the opinion of 14 prostrations.
The Hanafis accept only one prostration in Surah al-Hajj.
Whereas, from the ahadith, the evidence for two prostrations in Surah al-Hajj is established.
Although these ahadith are weak in their chains,
Hafiz Ibn Kathir rahimahullah states that there are some supporting narrations for them,
which strengthen each other. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah al-Anbiya, Ayah: 18)
Furthermore, the scholar of the era, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, has also declared it authentic. (Ta‘liqat al-Mishkat, al-Salat, Hadith: 1030)
Also, the hadith of Abu Dawud in which two prostrations in Surah al-Hajj are mentioned,
our researcher has declared it hasan (good).
See:
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1402)
for its verification and referencing.
The Shafi‘is do not accept the prostration of Surah Sad.
Whereas, in Sahih al-Bukhari, there is a narration that Ibn ‘Abbas radi Allahu anhu said:
I saw the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performing the prostration of Surah Sad. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sujud al-Qur’an, Hadith: 1069)
In conclusion, from the ahadith, it is found that there are 15 prostrations mentioned in the Noble Qur’an.
Therefore, while reciting the Noble Qur’an, it is recommended (mustahabb) to perform prostration at 15 places.
