Hadith 136

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَوْبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ ،عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، " أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّتَيْنِ " .
Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet ﷺ washed the limbs in ablution twice.

1:
Both Hammam ibn Yahya and Amir al-Ahwal used to become confused,
so it is possible that in this narration, one of them became confused and narrated "three" instead of "two."
However, from Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu), there is a similar narration in Ibn Majah (no. 415) through another (weak) chain.
