Narrated Tawus: Ibn Umar was asked about praying two rak'ahs before the Maghrib prayer. He replied: I did not see anyone praying them during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He (Ibn Umar) permitted to pray two rak'ahs after the Asr prayer. Abu Dawud said: I heard Yahya bin Main say: The correct name of the narrator Abu Shuaib is the Shuaib. Shubah made a mistake in narrating his name.

1284. Commentary:
The negation by Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma mentioned in this hadith, if authentic, will be attributed to his lack of knowledge, because from authentic ahadith it is established that the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum used to perform two rak‘ahs after the adhan of Maghrib.
