Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: Ata ibn Abu Rabah asked Aishah: Can women offer prayer on a riding beast? She replied: They were not permitted to do so in hardship or comfort. Muhammad ibn Shuayb said: This (prohibition) applies to the obligatory prayers.

Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Chapter: What Has Been Related About Praying On Mounts In Mud And Rain. Under Hadith [411], it is mentioned that Anas bin Malik (radi Allahu anhu) performed prayer on his mount due to mud, and several scholars hold this view. The fatwa of Imam Ahmad and Ishaq (rahimahullah) is also the same: in the case of a legitimate (shar'i) excuse, it is permissible to pray on a mount. The marfu' (attributed directly to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) hadith on this matter is weak.
