Narrated Qabisah al-Hilali: There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came out bewildered pulling his garment, and I was in his company at Madina. He prayed two rak'ahs and stood for a long time in them. He then departed and the sun became bright. He then said: There are the signs by means of which Allah, the Exalted, produces dread (in His servants). When you see anything of this nature, then pray as you are praying a fresh obligatory prayer.

1؎ : This narration indicates that the eclipse prayer (salat al-kusuf) will be performed in accordance with the obligatory prayer (fard salah) that precedes it. However, the author of *Muntaqa al-Akhbar*, Imam Abd al-Salam Ibn Taymiyyah, has given preference to those hadiths in which two units (rak‘ahs) with repeated bowings (ruku‘) are mentioned, because those narrations are found in the two Sahihs (al-Sahihayn) and are transmitted through multiple chains, whereas this narration is weak, as is evident from the takhrij (referencing).

1185. Commentary: In this, there is an instruction to perform the eclipse prayer (Salat al-Kusuf) in the manner of an obligatory (fard) prayer, but this narration is weak in its chain of transmission; therefore, it is not valid as evidence.
