Hadith 1156

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَخَذَ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ فِي طَرِيقٍ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فِي طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ " .
Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out by one road on the day of the Eid (festival) and returned by another.

This act is recommended (mustahabb), as it is narrated in Sahih Bukhari from Jabir bin Abdullah radi Allahu anhu, who states that when it was the day of Eid, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would change his route (when coming and going). [صحيح بخاري۔ حديث : 986]
