Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Ibn Jurayj said: Ata told me that he saw Ibn Umar pray after the Friday prayer. He moved a little from the place where he offered the Friday prayer. Then he would pray two rak'ahs. He then walked far away from that place and would offer four rak'ahs. I asked Ata: How many times did you see Ibn Umar do that? He replied: Many times. Abu Dawud said: This has been narrated by AbdulMalik ibn Abu Sulayman, but did not narrate it completely.

Explanation:
Regarding the Sunnah prayers after Jumu‘ah, the practice of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was to go home and perform two rak‘ahs, and he encouraged the ummah to perform four rak‘ahs, without distinguishing whether they are to be performed in the mosque or at home. Ibn ‘Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) most likely combined both the action and the statement of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). There is no explicit statement or action from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) establishing the performance of six rak‘ahs; in any case, four rak‘ahs are superior and more preponderant.
And some have also reconciled the reports by saying that if the prayers are to be performed in the mosque, then four rak‘ahs should be offered, and if performed at home, then two rak‘ahs should be offered.
