Hadith 1130

Ata said: When Ibn Umar offered the Friday prayer in Makkah he would go forward and pray two rak'ahs, he would then go forward and pray four rak'ahs; but when he was in Madina, he offered the Friday prayer, then returned to his house and prayed two rak'ahs, not praying them in the mosque. Someone mentioned this to him and he replied that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do it.

1130. Commentary:
➊ The noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) were the trustees of the religion; they were followers of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Their actions were observed, and details and evidence were also sought from them. After them, the scholars of the Ummah are the inheritors of this trust; people look at their character from a religious perspective and prefer to do so. Therefore, students of religion and scholars of the Shari'ah should make the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) their regular practice, so that people may receive a correct practical example, and the reward for this is to be received only from Allah (azza wa jall).

➋ It is also incumbent upon ordinary Muslims that, regarding issues and actions, they seek evidence from the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, because scholars are by no means infallible.
