He said: I met Abu Hurairah when he finished the prayer and said to him: You recited the two surah that Ali used to recite at Kufah. ´It was narrated that ‘Ubaidullah bin Abu Rafi’ said:` “Marwan appointed Abu Hurairah in charge of Al-Madinah, and set out for Makkah. Abu Hurairah led us in prayer on Friday, and he recited Surat Al-Jumu’ah in the first Rak’ah, and in the second, ‘When the hypocrites come to you,” [Al-Munafiqun (63)] ‘Ubaidullah said: “I caught up with Abu Hurairah when he finished and said to him: ‘You recited two Surah that ‘Ali used to recite in Kufah.’ Abu Hurairah said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reciting them.’”

Benefits and Issues: ➊ Reciting the two aforementioned surahs in the Friday (Jumu‘ah) prayer is Sunnah. However, recitation of other surahs is also permissible, as will be mentioned in the next hadith.
➋ The noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in) used to follow the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in every minor and major matter. Therefore, the actions of Ali (radi Allahu anhu) and Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) were also based solely on following the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
