Jabir and Abu Salih reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah: Sulaik al-Ghatafani came (to the mosque) while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was giving the (Friday) sermon. He asked him: Did you pray something ? He said: No. He said: Offer two rak'ahs and make them short.

´It was narrated that Jabir said:` “Sulaik Al-Ghatafani came while the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was delivering the sermon. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: ‘Did you perform two Rak’ah before you came?’ He said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Then perform two Rak’ah, but make them brief.’”

Benefit: The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in its chain by our esteemed researcher, whereas this narration—without the words (qabla an taji’a)—is also narrated in Sahih Muslim and Abu Dawud. The researcher has mentioned this in the footnote below. And in Sunan Abu Dawud (Hadith: 1116), it has been declared authentic. Therefore, this narration, without the words (qabla an taji’a), is authentic.
