Shuayb ibn Zurayq at-Taifi said: I sat with a man who had been in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi. He began to narrate a tradition to us saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a delegation consisting of seven or nine persons. We entered upon him and said: Messenger of Allah, we have visited you, so pray Allah what is good for us. He ordered to give us some dates. The Muslims in those days were weak. We stayed there for several days and offered the Friday prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stood leaning on a staff or a bow. He praised Allah and exalted Him in light, pure and blessed words. Then he said: O people, you have no power to obey or you cannot obey what you are ordered. But be straight and give good tidings. Abu Ali said: Did you hear Abu Dawud ? He said: Some of my companions reminded me of some words that were omitted from writing on the paper.

1096. Commentary:
➊ To love scholars who follow the Sunnah, the righteous, and those who act upon their knowledge purely for the sake of Allah Ta'ala is an extremely praiseworthy deed and one of lofty ranks. Allah Himself loves such people. And on the Day of Resurrection, such people will receive the special shade of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. «اللهم اجعلنا منهم» Ameen. [صحيح مسلم، حديث : 256 ➏ 2527]
➋ If one has the opportunity to visit virtuous people, one should ask them to make supplication for good; this is a recommended (mustahabb) act.
➌ It is the right of guests, according to the situation, to be served well.
➍ It is recommended (mustahabb) to stand with a staff or similar object during the sermon (khutbah).
➎ It is impossible for ordinary people to act upon all the rulings of the Shari'ah, but one should avoid negligence and laziness as much as possible. It is necessary to make steadfastness and moderation in righteous deeds a habit.
➏ The hadith scholars (muhaddithin) would also mention their personal shortcomings so that people would not begin to consider them infallible.

Holding a Staff (Stick) or Bow during the Friday Khutbah
Holding a staff (stick) or bow during the Friday khutbah is established from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz (rahimahullah) delivered the khutbah on the pulpit while holding a staff in his hand. [
It should be noted that holding a staff or bow during the Friday khutbah is not obligatory; therefore, the khutbah is permissible even without them.
Benefit: Apart from the khutbah, it is also established from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) that he held a staff.

1096.»©Explanation:
➊ According to this hadith, the khatib (preacher) may lean on something during the Friday sermon (khutbah).
➋ This is recommended (mustahabb).
➌ The wisdom behind this is that such an object provides support for the khatib, prevents the hands from unnecessary movement, and also keeps a person from feeling fatigued.
© Hadith Narrator:
«حضرت حکم بن حزن رضی اللہ عنہ » In the name "Hakam," both the "ha" and "kaf" have a fatha (are pronounced with an 'a' sound).
And in "Huzn," the "ha" has a fatha and the "za" is sukun (silent).
His full name is Hakam ibn Huzn ibn Abi Wahb al-Makhzumi.
Regarding his acceptance of Islam, one opinion is that he accepted Islam before the Battle of Yamamah, although the correct view is that he accepted Islam at the time of the Conquest of Makkah.
From this hadith, it is understood that he performed the Friday prayer under the leadership of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
