Ata said: The Friday and the ‘id prayers synchronized during the time of Ibn al-Zubair. He said: Two festivals (‘id and Friday) synchronized on the same day. He combined them and offered two rak’ahs in the morning and did not add anything to them until he offered the afternoon prayer.

1072. Commentary: Abdullah ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) understood this concession to be general for both the common people and the imam. Furthermore, it apparently seems from this occasion that Ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) did not perform the Zuhr (noon) prayer after the Eid prayer, but only performed the Asr (afternoon) prayer. However, the author of Subul al-Salam has stated that this narration is not a definitive text (nas qat'i) regarding the omission of Zuhr, because it is possible that he performed the Zuhr prayer at home.
